Successful Pandanet Cup start for Silt

This year's Slovenian Open, the 22nd Memorial of Vladimir Omejc, traditionally started the new season of popular top european competition, Pandanet Go European Cup. As always, there were big names, tough fights and some surprising results, but when the dust settled, the favourites came on the top again: Ondrej Silt 6d of Czechia, runner-up of previous PGEC edition, won the tournament with a perfect 6-out-of-6 score, and last year's PGEC winner Pal Balogh 6d (Hungary) came second. Third place was taken by Vladimir Danek 5d (Czechia), followed by Leon Matoh 5d (Slovenia), Martin Kuzela 4d (Czechia), Gregor Butala 5d, Damir Galic 3d (both Slovenia) and Peter Marko 3d (Hungary) who also got Pandanet points.

Despite some late cancellations, caused by unexpected difficulties in international travel, which resulted in slightly smaller playing field than usual (41 players in all, almost half of it were dan-level toughies), the tournament can be viewed as success – organisation was on high level, playing conditions were perfect and the weather was just great, so the participants could enjoy their time off the board to the fullest. Considering some new attractions announced for the next year's edition, the popularity of Bled tournament will probably flourish even more.
